Color Theory

  1. Define hueHue is the correct word to use to refer to just the pure spectrum colors. Any given color can be described in terms of its value and hue. 
  2. Define value: An element of art, value refers to the lightness or darkness of a color.

  3. Define saturation:the state or process that occurs when no more of something can be absorbed, combined with, or added
  4. How many colors are available on our computers?Usually, true color is defined to mean at least 256 shades of red, green, and blue, for a total of at least 16,777,216 color variations. 
  5. Define secondary color:a color resulting from the mixing of two primary colors.
  6. Define tertiary color: These are resulting colors formed when an equal amount of primary and secondary color are mixed.
  7. Define complementary colors:colors directly opposite each other in the color spectrum, such as red and green or blue and orange, that when combined in the right proportions, produce white light.

  9. What are the secondary colors in Photoshop?orange violet and green
  10. Define subtractive color model: A subtractive color model explains the mixing of dyes , inks, paint pigment or natural colorants to create wider range of colors each results of partically or completely subtracting some wave lengths of light .
  11. Define additive color model:also refered as the rgb color model ,which includes red, green , and blue light are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors . 
  12. Is RGB additive or subtractive? Additive 
  13. What is the CYYK color model used for? It can be used in color prinitng and can describe printing process. 
  14. Define analogous colors:any one of related colors that are near each other on the color wheel , a circular chart that shows gradations of color.
  15. Define tint:a shade or variation of a color
  16. Define shade:a color, especially with regard to how light or dark it is or as distinguished from one nearly like it
  17. Define neutral:a neutral color or shade, especially light gray or beige.
  18. Define monochromatic:using only one color

  19. What can be said in general about warm colors? Warm colors are often made with a combination of red , yellow , orange and brown . As they tend to make you think of sunlight and heat . 
  20. What can be said in general about cool colors? It describes any color that is calm , made often with blue , green, and purple combinations. Cooler colors are not overpowering and tend to recede in space.
  21. Which color is associated with stability? blue
  22. Which color symbolizes royalty? Purple 
  23. Which is the color of cleanliness?white
  24. Which color symbolism freshness?green
  25. Which colors are associated with joy? orange red and yellow
  26. Which color symbolizes passion and danger? red
